Has anyone here written the LSAT?

I'm planning on writing the LSAT soon, and am wondering if anyone else on this site has already done so--or, if someone's likewise thinking of writing it, it'd be interesting to get in touch. The application process for law school is daunting and intimidating at the best of times, so it would be great to connect with people who've been there/are thinking of applying in the very near future. Anyone? thanks in advance for replies.

Hi, I haven't taken the LSAt, but one of my best friends has. She had some problems getting accomodations the first time she took the exam. I think she even had to get a doctor's note or something stating that she had a verifiable disability. Just something to think about. Also, she has gone online and taken the test, though I think it was a practice one.

Thanks for your reply.
Yes, you do have to have medical certification that verrifies your disability in order to get accomodations during the test itself. Usually, an optomatrist's report will suffice. I'm sorry your friend had a difficult time of it though. Did she end up getting into the school of her choice?

I took the LSAT, although it was back in 1996 so I'm sure things have changed a bit. I didn't have any trouble getting accomodations. I did have to send in a report from my doctor, but it was no big deal. I got into both law schools that I applied to but opted for the one in my home town because I was tired of being away from home after 4 years of college. I had a much harder time getting accomodations in law school. The committee that made decisions about accomodations was full of morons so it took a year of arguing and providing unnecessary documentation before they finally gave in. It was ridiculous. I first gave them a statement that said I was legally blind. It had always been sufficient for every accomodation request I had ever made in my life. They said they wanted more details, so I gave them a complete eye report which they wouldn't accept because they didn't understand the medical terminology. I finally had to get my doctor to write a letter explaining exactly what it meant to be legally blind and why the accomodations I was requesting were necessary. It was complete bullshit. Too bad I'm not going through the process now that I'm totally blind. Even those morons could've figured out that accomodations were necessary. Anyway, I finally convinced them and got through the program just fine and graduated in 1999. So, that was my experience in a nutshell. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have if you want to send me a PM or something. Good luck.

Hi, my friend did not get into either law school she applied to, but she will try for a few schools that are a bit easier to get into. While we're on the topic of entrance exams, has anyone taken the MAT or GRE, and how were they. Does anyone know where I can get braille practice copies of these tests?

Time travelling bunny, thanks for your reply. I'm glad to hear that you went through law school successfully--so are you currently practising? may I ask in which state and in which area of law? you may not return to this thread, so I may just have to send you a pm. I find it frustrating that the LSAT is only available in braille and through a reader; an electronic copy is not an option. I fear that the braille will slow me down, and I don't tend to retain information very well if being read to (especially given that many of the logic games have many variables). Did you find a way around that?
Thanks again for answering my questions.
BLW, you can probably access older copies of the GRE online, or from other prep material (I purchased prep material and had it scanned so that I could read it). Good luck!
